A Theatre • Music • Dance Performance
What happens when the promise of the Constitution meets real life?
Im Anschluss: FROM THE PAPER TO THE PEOPLE - Gespräch über gelebte Demokratie
The Paper and the Person (Das Blatt und der Mensch) is a powerful multidisciplinary performance combining theatre, spoken word, live music, singing, and movement, inspired by Munni’s book Grundgesetz in Practice. Created and written by Louis Desmond, the piece reflects on dignity, equality, belonging, and the lived reality behind Articles 1 and 3 of the German Basic Law.
Through symbolic characters such as “Bread” and “Coffee,” the performance explores the space between constitutional promise and everyday experience, especially from the perspective of People of Color and migrant communities in Germany.
Blending poetry, live piano and guitar, collective voices, and movement, The Paper and the Person transforms the Grundgesetz from a legal text into a living human conversation — asking:
How do we close the gap between the paper and the person?
After the performance: FROM THE PAPER TO THE PEOPLE - Come. Join the conversation about living democracy.
